It has been a busy week. Sorry for the lack of updates. This week, I
spent the nights getting our laptop in a state to run linux on it.
Monday night was spent finding a laptop harddrive in our spare
bedroom/computer room. Then I had to copy all the stuff from the
harddrive to our desktop so that if I ever needed something from my
college laptop, which has since broken, I could retrieve it. I think
that was about all that happened on Monday night. Tuesday night was
spent downloading and burning linux cds (Fedora, upon the advice of
Valerie's Tim). I tried installing it and it wouldn't work. Ended up
noticing last night that I had copied the disk image directly to the
cd instead of using the image to burn the cd. Yes, I have installed
linux before and I remember it being easier than this. So, I finally
get the cd burned correctly and go to install it and it gives me a bug
error. Drat... Doh... I downloaded the Ubuntu distribution last night
(another one of Tim's suggestions).
All this week, I have been leaving the house a bit earlier than is
normal for me. I have been getting to work earlier and leaving work
earlier because of this. I have also cut my driving time nearly in
half because of leaving earlier. I think that traffic here is such
that peoples schedules evolve to fit traffic. I learned that leaving
later from home used to get me to work faster. That is no longer the
case. I think everyone else figured that out too. Used to be that if
I tried to get to work before 9, it would take me 45 minutes. So I
left at 9, it took me 15 minutes to get to work and about 30 to get
home. If I did that now, it would take about 45 to get to work and an
hour to get home. I'm good with making my schedule fit the traffic.
I can do it so I will....
This weekend, Jenny is on call. We will also be in the process of
porting our cell phone numbers from Cingular (which we no longer like)
to T-mobile (which we weren't too thrilled about either but gives us
the best plan for the money.) We get nice phones with a rebate to pay
for our turn-on fees. New phones will be nice. Being able to roam
will also be nice. Going to San Jose in January will be a lot nicer
being able to talk to Jenny. Thats all I got for now. I'll try to
post some pictures this weekend!
