Last Monday, August 9, at around 8am, my granddad, Samuel Green Walker, passed into the next life. My mom called at 7 that morning to tell us that my grandmother (her mom) had called earlier and let them know that he wasn't doing very well and that they weren't expecting him to live very much longer because his kidneys had shut down. I didn't quite know what to do. I talked to Jenny and we decided to take the day off and drive to see him before he died. About 30 minutes down the road, my mom called again to say that he had died. I think my uncle made it from Atlanta to LaGrange before he died and he may have gotten to see him. And, I really wish I had too. It had been quite some time since I had seen him. I think my mom and dad and sisters had gone a few weeks back but I had something already arranged that weekend.

Its very sad to lose someone so close to you and it leaves a very large hole to be filled. You must choose what to fill it with. Blaise Pascal wrote: "There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ."

We went down to see my grandmother and stayed through the funeral on Thursday afternoon. No matter how much joy there is in life, its never perfect.
