Jenny went to see a patient in Leamington Plantation here on Hilton Head. I sent her with a camera because, Leamington is not only a really really ritzy place to live but it is also the home of the island's only true lighthouse. The Hilton Head Rear Range Lighthouse or Leamington Lighthouse was built along with a twin tower to guide ships into the Port Royal Sound (north of the island). By lining the two up, the crew would know that they were going into the sound correctly. The lighthouse was made obsolete by a smaller movable tower needed because of changes to the land surrounding the sound, sandbars, and the like. It still stands though its twin no longer does.
